Editor, Godfrey Pye I have worked in the postproduction business for some years, at first as an editor using a Moviola. These days I ply my trade in my own studio in the Hollywood Hills where the Final Cut Studio Suite includes many of my tools of choice.
History I was founder and president of Rushes Postproduction, one of London's top post companies. I sold Rushes to Richard Branson in 1987 - it was the first company ever bought by Virgin plc. I became Managing Director of Virgin Television, responsible for ten Virgin companies including 525 and CIS, both in Hollywood. In 1991 I came to live in Los Angeles, working as president of CIS and later as president of Sunset Digital. I have also edited in Sydney and have worked in Berlin as CEO of a digital post facility in Babelsberg Studios.
Present Day L.A. is now my home and editing is what makes me happiest. I recall that some of my most enjoyable days in this industry came when I built Rushes from scratch, but that was a long time ago. Today, my poolside company Mulholland Bays is set in very pleasant surroundings and will always stay 'boutique' in size. However, thanks to the latest technology, small is beautiful and the equipment includes a dual processor Apple G5, a total of five terabytes of RAID storage, a 42" flat-screen HD client monitor and a Kona 2 card which allows us to record to-and-from any videotape deck, whether HD or SD. This configuration gives the ability to edit feature films shot in SD or HD then post produce them here in the studio, becoming in some cases 35mm movies. How far we've come since the days of the Moviola.
